Smallest feature

The smallest feature is the least straight dimension that can be measured on the part, irrespective of direction.
For example

• in an air cooled cylinder in a combustion engine, the least feature is the least thickness of a cooling flange
• in a text marked part, the smallest feature can be the letter thickness

It is always a matter of judgement which the smallest feature is. It can be more sensible to disregard very small features with no relevance for the heat treatment process, and consider a somewhat larger functional feature as being the smallest.
